Earth Month at GW
Welcome to Earth Month 2025! Here we will be compiling a list of sustainability and environmental conservation events taking place at GW this April. We will highlight programming from the GW Office of Sustainability as well as other offices and student organizations across campus. Check back every week as new events will be added throughout the month.

- APRIL 4TH, 11TH, 18TH - GW Innovation Center (GWIC) April Programming:
- 🪡 Visible Mending: Join us on April 4th from 2-5PM in the GWIC (Tompkins M06) for an introduction to darning and mending using sashiko and embroidery techniques.
- 🥧 Raspberry Pi 101: Join us on April 11th from 2-5PM in the GWIC (Tompkins M06) for an introduction to using Raspberry Pi microcomputers to make your own VPN. Bring your own pi if you have one!
- 🧶 Fiber Arts: Join us on April 18th from 2-5PM in the GWIC (Tompkins M06)) for a lesson in knitting and crochet. No prior experience necessary.
- APRIL 4TH - GW Biking Custis Trail Ride: Join GW Biking on a group ride on the Custis Trail! Meet outside of tonic at 4:00pm.
- APRIL 5TH - GW Biking's Bikepalooza: Join GW Biking, WABA, SSC, Capital Bikeshare, SGA for a day filled with speakers, a
scavenger hunt, food, raffles, and more! In Potomac Square from 11:00am to 5:00pm. - APRIL 8TH - Chat & Chew with the Chesapeake Bay Foundation: On Tuesday, April 8, from 12-1 PM, the Chesapeake Bay Foundation (CBF) is hosting a virtual one-hour Chat and Chew Information Session to acquaint students with opportunities to participate in conservation and environmental activities that support our nation’s waterways, particularly the Chesapeake Bay. This session precedes a planned site visit for students to the Foundation. - APRIL 9TH - GW One World, Careers in Sustainability Panel: GW One World will be hosting a panel featuring professionals speaking about different career paths in sustainability! In the Elliot School room 214 from 7:00pm to 8:00pm.
- APRIL 10TH - Tracing the Legacy - Black Farmers and the Fight for Equity: Learn about the historical roots of systemic inequities and solutions for Black farmers' empowerment on April 10th from 12pm-2pm at this GW Global Food Institute event series. For more information and to RSVP, click here.
- APRIL 11TH - The Sexsonian: GW’s biggest sexual wellbeing event is BACK! Pleasure is a non-negotiable part of sexual health—so let’s talk about it. You’re invited to The Sexsonian, a free, immersive event on April 11th at the USC, Continental Ballroom (3rd Floor) where we explore pleasure, challenge taboos, and learn in an open, inclusive space.

- APRIL 11TH - Sustainability Games Day: Join the GW Alliance for a Sustainable Future for a game day with students from other DC Universities. For more information check out their Instagram.
- APRIL 12TH - GW Biking National Arboretum Ride: Ride to the National Arboretum with GW Biking! Meet outside of Tonic at 2:00pm.
- APRIL 12TH - Environmental Justice Action Network (EJAN) Volunteering: Join EJAN for a community clean up with Ward 8 Woods! Meet at Foggy Metro at 9:30am.
- APRIL 15TH - Smithsonian National Zoo Chief Veterinarian Speaker Event: GW One Health is hosting a speaker event featuring the Chief Veterinarian from the Smithsonian National Zoo! Come to Monroe Hall B32 at 7:00pm.
- APRIL 16TH - UpStart Program: Are you a GW student seeking funding for a project that addresses a community need? Do you have an idea that combines service with action? Or maybe you just want to help people but not sure how and where to start? Join the Nashman Center on April 16th for a Workshop on HOW TO CREATE SUSTAINABLE PROJECTS. If you’re interested in learning something new, developing or executing your specific skills, or simply ready to engage with DC, join us! - APRIL 17TH - 2025 Planet Forward Summit - The Climate Divide: Join Planet Forward on April 17th and 18th at their annual Planet Forward Summit to learn what it will take to turn discord into dialogue, conflict into collaboration, and opposition into opportunity. For more information, click here.
- APRIL 17TH - Sustainability Minor Capstone Postering Session: Come to the Sustainability Minor’s Spring Postering session to see how students approached their capstone projects! On the second floor of the School of Media and Public Affairs from 4:00pm to 6:00pm.
- APRIL 18TH - One Health Spring Bake Sale: Get a treat at the Spring Bake Sale! In Kogan Plaza from 11:00am to 3:30pm.
- APRIL 18TH - EJAN Milken Garden Planting: Join the Environmental Justice Action Network to plant in the garden outside of the Milken School from 11:00am to 2:00pm.
- APRIL 19TH - Fossil Free Festival: Organizers for Revolutionary Climate Action (ORCA) is hosting their third annual Fossil Free Festival on April 19th from 12-5PM in Square 80. Join a celebration of organizations that envision a Fossil Free GW and are fighting for just causes, whether they be environmental, social, political, etc. Local D.C. organizations and artists will be in attendance so students can learn information and engage with the broader D.C. community. There will be free food and beverages for all, and live music performances!
- APRIL 19TH - Compass Impact Consulting, Impact Conference: Compass is hosting an Impact Conference in Duques 251 from 10:00am to 2:30pm.
- APRIL 19TH - Responsible Fashion Collective (RFC) Spring Fashion Show: Join RFC at Post Hall on the Vern for their Spring Fashion Show! The event begins at 6:30pm.
- APRIL 25TH - Sustainable Students Coalition Sustainability On-Campus Meeting: Come to the Coalition’s second Sustainability On-Campus meeting to connect with the Office of Sustainability and Alliance for a Sustainable Future as we speak about ways to improve
sustainability at GW! This discussion will take place in Duques 251 from 12:00pm to 1:00pm. - APRIL 26TH - Surfrider River Clean-Up: Join Surfrider for a River Clean Up, students will walk along the Georgetown Waterfront Park
and pick up trash! Meet i n Kogan Plaza at 11:00am. - APRIL 27TH - Sustainable Students Coalition's Walk for Water: The Coalition is partnering with GW Panhellenic and Thirst Project to host a Walk for Water raising money for freshwater wells in Africa! The Walk will be on the National Mall, with more information including how to get involved coming soon!
- APRIL 27TH - GW Biking Social: Come to GW Biking’s social event with food and refreshments! In USC 403 at 6:00pm.
